The cheif dancer strictly following fasting & vegetarianism etc as a part of rituals. The dancer who propitates the central deity of the shrine has to reside in the aniyara[ green room] .After sunset the particular fasting dancer is perfoming Thottam or Vellattam.It is performed in the night without proper make up or costume.The dancer along with the drummers recites the particular ritual song which describes the myths and legends of the particular deity .After finishing the primary ritual , the dancer return to the green room for proper make up, costumes and with face painting.
