The cult of Bhagavathi became so dominant in the social life of Kolathunadu that no village of this area could be found without a shrine or kaavu of a bhagavathi.

The theyyam dance is classified as Thaandava [ the masculine] and Laasya[ feminine].Both styles are adopted in theyyattam accroding to the contest and character of the deity.

The main props used are swords, sheilds, bows , arrows & other weapons.
